Social events are hosted throughout the year giving residents an opportunity to network and socialize with their peers:

  • Tailgates during the Crimson Tide football season
  • A major outing for residents and their families; past events have included a concert at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and a trip to a nearby water park
  • Weekly dinners at local restaurants with residents, spouses, and friends
  • An annual faculty vs. residents softball game
  • Lampoons an end-of-year event that celebrates the graduating class and memorable moments from their years as residents

The University of Alabama

The City of Tuscaloosa

The city of Tuscaloosa offers a bustling downtown, diverse options for shopping and dining, family-friendly entertainment and an idyllic location on the banks of the Black Warrior River. The community is enriched with the arts, with performances by the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, appearances by world-renown artists at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and an eclectic gathering of talent and events at the historical downtown Bama Theatre. Local artists are regularly featured in the city’s galleries, and at the Druid City Art Festival and The Kentuck Festival of the Arts. The city’s growing local food options make it a haven for food enthusiasts, and with three farmers markets – including one on the UA campus – residents can enjoy the West Alabama harvest. Moderate temperatures in summer and winter afford outdoor adventurers opportunities for fishing and boating on Lake Tuscaloosa or mountain biking at a nearby park. Tuscaloosa is conveniently located to nearby getaways and is less than an hour from Birmingham, three hours from Atlanta and just half a day’s drive to pristine beaches along the Alabama and Florida coasts.
