DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa is the primary hospital for The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, which is the only residency at the hospital. Located adjacent to the UA campus on University Boulevard, DCH is a tertiary-care facility with 583 beds and offers a variety of special units and advanced services, including cancer, cardiology, robotic and minimally invasive surgery, and the region’s most advanced trauma center. The Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a second hospital training site for our residency. The facility provides a busy general medical service as well as comprehensive psychiatric services. The VA Medical Center is a 655-bed hospital emphasizing neuropsychiatry; medical services include an intensive care unit, pulmonary laboratory and a nursing home unit for geriatric patients.
University Medical Center, UMC-Northport and local private physician offices are the ambulatory care centers for the residency.
Located on The University of Alabama campus, University Medical Center provides multi-specialty and patient-centered care for West Alabama in an environment that emphasizes the skills and attitudes of family medicine and primary care practice. Under the supervision of skilled and dedicated clinicians, residents are trained in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, neurology, and minor surgery.
UMC-Northport, just a short drive from campus, provides family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, prenatal care, geriatrics, neurology, behavioral medicine and sports medicine.
UMC-Demopolis, provides family medicine, prenatal and obstetrics care in a rural community about an hour from Tuscaloosa.
