To be considered for the UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, if you graduated from Medical School in the United States or Canada you must be a graduate of LCME-accredited or AOA-accredited medical school. If you graduated outside the United States or Canada you must hold a currently valid certificate from the ECFMG prior to appointment or hold a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States.
Applicants must apply through the ERAS; our residency is listed as University of Alabama – Tuscaloosa program on ERAS. We only accept the Common Application Form designed by the Association of American Medical Colleges. It is not required at the time of application, but international medical graduates must obtain ECFMG certification. Applications will not be considered if they are faxed or emailed.
A transcript, three letters of recommendation and a dean’s letter must be submitted. The three letters should comment on the applicant’s medical knowledge, clinical judgement and character.
Applications will be received and reviewed by our Recruiting Committee, and those chosen for interviews will be contacted through ERAS. Please note that meeting the minimum requirements of the program does not guarantee an interview.
We participate in the National Resident Matching Program and abide by its rules and regulations.
