Ray Stewart, MD — Assistant Professor

Dr. Ray Stewart was born and raised in Phenix City, Ala. He graduated from The University of Alabama, magna cum laude, in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He was accepted into the CCHS Rural Medical Scholars Program in 2002. Prior to entering medical school, he earned master’s degrees in biology and health studies from UA in 2003. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 2007 and completed his residency training at the UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program in 2010, where he served as chief resident from 2009 to 2010.

After residency graduation, Stewart was selected as the first fellow for the Dr. Patrick Trammell Excellence in Sports Medicine Program at UA. He completed the fellowship in 2011 and entered private practice in Gordo, Ala., where he also served as team physician for Sipsey Valley High School, Pickens County High School, Aliceville High School and Stillman College in Tuscaloosa.

Stewart joined CCHS in 2016 as an assistant professor in the Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine. He serves as the clinic director for sports medicine and program director for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. In addition, he is the medical director for UA Athletics and head team physician for football and women’s basketball.
